A customer recently reached out, seeking assistance with choosing a TESmart KVM switch for their dual setup: a gaming desktop and a work laptop running Ubuntu. Their needs included switching between the two computers and sharing two monitors (4K@144Hz) and peripherals like a mouse, keyboard, and USB headset.

Customer’s Hardware Setup:

  • Laptop Dell Latitude 7400, HDMI & USB-C ports.
  • Desktop 2 HDMI ports and 2 DisplayPorts.
  • Monitors Two 4K-capable displays with HDMI and DP inputs.
  • Peripherals USB keyboard, mouse, and headset.

The customer was also concerned about compatibility with Ubuntu and required Full HD 144Hz support for gaming on their desktop.

TESmart’s Solution After reviewing the customer’s specifications, we recommended the HKS202-E23 Dual Monitor KVM Switch, which allows seamless toggling between two computers and supports 3840x2160@60Hz or 1080p@144Hz. We advised the customer to use a USB-C to HDMI adapter for their laptop and confirmed Linux compatibility.

Although the switch couldn’t fulfill one specific request—displaying both computers simultaneously on one monitor—the customer was satisfied, as this was not a critical requirement. Additionally, the customer was reassured that the KVM switch supports USB peripherals and Linux-based systems, including Ubuntu.

Outcome The customer decided to test their setup before making a final purchase, expressing appreciation for the support and prioritization of their potential order. Despite not making an immediate purchase, the positive interaction helped strengthen the relationship with the brand.
